Firing Service Terms & Conditions

To help us provide a safe and reliable firing service for everyone, please read the following studio guidelines carefully before submitting your work.

Before You Drop Off Your Work

Please make sure that:

  • All pieces are clearly marked with your name or maker’s mark.

  • Greenware is completely dry before firing. Damp work will not be accepted.

  • No foreign materials are attached or trapped inside pieces, including metal, plastic, or wood. Paper products used during making are fine.

  • The bottom and lower edges of glazed work are fully cleaned and free from glaze. Underglaze on the base is acceptable.

  • Your clay body is suitable for the firing temperature requested.

  • Your glaze and clay are compatible with each other and appropriate for the chosen firing temperature.

  • Any work with potentially runny glaze must be supplied with kiln cookies or suitable catch trays. This is especially important for heavily glazed surfaces, specialty glazes, or speckled clay bodies.

  • Sculptural or solid forms are properly hollowed to reduce the risk of cracking or explosion during firing.

  • Walls are not excessively thick, as uneven drying and firing may cause damage.

  • Finished work is collected within two weeks of notification. Please bring your own boxes or packing materials for collection.

Our Commitment

We handle every piece with care and professionalism throughout the firing process and aim to achieve the best possible results for your work.

Please Note

Ceramics can be unpredictable, and while every effort is made to fire work safely, we cannot guarantee against issues such as:

  • Cracking

  • Warping

  • Glaze faults

  • Breakage

  • Explosions during firing

  • Unexpected kiln reactions

By submitting work for firing, you acknowledge and accept these risks.

Minor shelf damage: from $10
Moderate shelf damage: from $25
Severe shelf damage or shelf replacement: charged at replacement cost

Any damage caused to kiln interiors or studio equipment may also require repair costs to be covered by the maker.
